Trabzonspor lost appeal - banned from Champions League

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has in a statement confirmed UEFA's decision to ban the Turkish club from UEFA tournaments for one year. As Trabzonspor finished second in the Turkish league this season, the decision prevents the club from participating in the 20/21 edition of Champions League. UEFA decided in early June to ban the club from its competitions because it failed to meet the required accounting requirements. Trabzonspor appealed the exclusion to the CAS, but lost the case in contrast to Manchester City who had their exclusion from UEFA competitions lifted earlier in July. The statement from CAS states that the Turkish club had failed to be break-even compliant as required by a settlement agreement it had entered into in 2016 and sanctioned the club with a conditional exclusion from participating in one UEFA club competition for which it would otherwise qualify in the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons.
